Storytime for Growin' Beans is the name of the storytime at my library. My city holds the world record for the largest pot of butterbeans cooking at one time (interesting, right?) & is the home of the Alabama Butterbean Festival, so some of my library's programs are bean-name-themed.
Also, sometimes brains are called "beans" & I'm definitely hoping to grow the little beans of the kids who come to my storytime.
I started SFGB in May 2013. I've pretty much kept the same outline during that time. I recently changed things up a bit by moving to an alphabet theme, but more on that later...
I must have an outline & a plan for each stortyime. That's just the way that I'm wired. I think I would have a panic attack if I ever had to just 'wing it' during storytime. Maybe it's because I'm still "new" to librarianship & storytime, but I need to plan an outline for each storytime session.
I used a pretty standard storytime outline. You can find it here:

I didn't use each of the sections every storytime; I mixed & matched. Sometimes I'd have a song or sometimes I'd have another story with a prop. The outline actually varied with my theme.
I would also figure out my craft for each storytime & make sure that I had all of the materials. Again, my library is fairly "new" & (at least when I first started storytime there) we didn't have a lot of craft supplies on-hand. Things have slowly built up over the past year & a half, but I always have to think about what we have ready to go & what I would have to ask my director to order.
I also search our catalog for related materials to have on display for checkout at each storytime. While our collection is still pretty small, I do have trouble keeping up with all of the different books I can use for each theme. I also don't order or process books, so new stuff is added all of the time & I don't even see it until I stumble upon it on the shelf.
Again, I have a more solid outline for my current alphabet storytime themes now, but this is what I've been working on for about a year.
Do you have a strict outline that you follow for each storytime?
